I’m Alena and I’ve had a lifelong passion for making art, especially doodling, drawing and illustration involving plants, animals, landscapes and the human figure. My illustrative styling combines unique playful line-work, bright colors, and bold-often-repeating-patterns with the subject matter, turning it into a pop-art inspired image which can be used as surface patterns on your favorite textiles, home accessories, tech accessories, etc. I’d love to help you come up with creative, playful designs of your favorite people, pets, places or plants to help you bring your design visions to life.
Until now, the subject matter of my illustrative work, while ecompassing many different environments, has been informed by living, growing and learning on the eastern side of the US, mainly in New York, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Arkansas. Everywhere I have lived and visited, the natural world has had a tremendous impact on me as a human and I believe that carries over into my work. I recently moved to the Western Slope of Colorado where observing the new-to-me high desert landscape is adding unexpected layers of nuance to my illustrations through slight changes in line quality and delighting my senses.
With every stroke, the design becomes more clear.
One aspect of digital illustration I love, is access to tools and technology that can take the whole act of making the drawing and turn it into a time-lapse video or animation. I’m fascinated with the processes that makers use and by how they take ideas and are able to turn them into something real.
